King Arthur
A collaboration between IADT, RIAM & Director Aoife Spillane-Hinks for the production of semi-opera King Arthur, Libretto by John Dryden, music by Henry Purcell. Performed in January 2022, held in The Samuel Beckett Theatre, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.
The concept for these headpieces stemmed from a headdress of dreadlocks created with moss. Experimenting with materials that not only resemble vegetation, but would be durable for a production of this scale. This process developed to rope and fabric that would resemble the knotted hair.
The devious Grimbald and his spirits are part of the forest and the rope dreads were similar to roots I created gnarled rotting bark with foam clay to represent the mischievous dark nature of these characters.
